Education is littered with examples of innovations that have either failed or only been partially implemented because teachers werent convinced the change was necessary and would result in real improvement. The result has been that they merely modify their practice at the edges and then abandon the change after a while because it didnt work for them.More effective use of assessment, particularly formative assessment, will require many teachers to reconsider their approach to teaching and learning and to re-evaluate their working practices(Weeden,2002,p. 127).
