As a child, she attended St. Rose de Lima ParochialSchool. Her family go to Los Angeles when she wasonly ten years old. When she became older, she became apopular actress. She started out as the leggy secretary, Samon "Richard Diamond, Private Detective" in 1957, whereyou could only see her legs. At the time, they felt thatthey needed to explain to the audience why a 30 year oldwoman had not been married. At first, the studio suggested a divorcee.Mary loved the idea, but the network soon decided that the covering audience would think that Mary had divorced DickVan Dyke.
